Why We Chose Ampere Time Lithium Battery to Begin Our Solar Journey?
“If you are considering getting into solar, it is overwhelming and can be very scary. However, know that it is possible to do even on a budget. Rest assured, you can support your boondocking dreams or off grid living by using the Ampere Time battery line for your adventures. The price line is on point and they provide plenty of options to choose from to support your camping needs. ” ——Gretchen Watson
We are the Watson’s, a family of 7 who sold it all in 2019 to live and travel full time in our rv with our kids. What made us decide to do this? Well, besides a career change, we knew our kids were getting older and wanted to maintain a close bond with them as they became teenagers. We are blended family by adoption. This type of family dynamic creates a difficult road for bonds to be made. We felt this lifestyle could bring a closeness a large home may not provide. We had never heard of this type of lifestyle until we began researching it. Little did we know traveling full time in an rv was more popular than we thought. Thanks to the pandemic in 2020, the Rv community has exploded.
So after we sold 90% of our belongings, we set out to find the right Rv for our families needs. We purchased our 2018 KZ Sportsmen 332BHLE Travel Trailer and was ready to hit the road. Our plan was to travel the states, and stay at campgrounds and state parks along the way. This dream has been amazing for our family. It has offered our kids experiences neither of us had growing up. We have been able to stay at such amazing campgrounds that offer wonderful amenities to state parks with the features of wildlife and seclusion.
Last Summer we were able to visit Utah’s amazing landscapes and national parks. We noticed Rv’s parked everywhere in these beautiful locations. While our campground was nice, these RV’s were parked facing the beautiful red dirt canyons that Utah’s landscapes offer. The only issue, they had no sewer, water, or electric hookups. This intrigued our travel spirit and we felt like we were missing out. Sure we could experience these great National Parks, but we had to stay out of town at campgrounds due to the need for hook ups. What if we were set up to provide power to our Rv without having to hook up at a campground? Not only would this save money since we could stay on BLM land, it would also provide us with views and experiences no campground can give you.
When we left that area, we knew immediately it was time for an upgrade. We needed to become self sufficient and become solar ready so we could stay in these remote areas that offered such exquisite views. This type of camping is known as dry camping or boondocking. Boondocking is where you camp without hook ups such as sewer, water, and electric. We began doing our research and found out we needed things such as batteries and solar panels and a host of other things.
When getting into solar, there are so many avenues and everyone has their own opinion. It can be quite scary and overwhelming. So many options, opinions, how do you even know which way is best? We knew we were on a budget being a large family, but wanted a set up that would allow our dreams of remote camping. This seemed a bit impossible at first. Solar set up’s are also pretty pricey. Months of research went into our solar set up as we were beginning to get started.
We began our solar journey by purchasing 4 100 watt Solar panels. Then we began looking into different types of lithium batteries. The ones our Rv community recommended were not budget friendly. This was discouraging and we began thinking maybe solar was out of our reach. However, after much research and shopping around, we found our solution. We discovered the Ampere Time 12V 300AH Lithium battery. We were so excited to find an affordable lithium battery that no only fit within our budget , but could support our solar dreams.
After investing in the Solar panels, Ampere Time Lithium battery, next we went with a 3,000 watt converter SL Euthtion pure sine wave power inverter 12V Dc to 120 ac 60hz and 40 Amp MPPT Solar Charger Controller.
Here’s how we hooked it up. First we started by installing the four panels directly to our roof and ran wires to our front storage where the rest of our set up would be contained. Next we connected the solar to our 40 amp MPPT Solar Charger Controller which then connected to the Ampere Time 12V 300Ah lithium battery. This was then connected to the Inverter converter. On top of this we have cut off switches and fuses for protection. We bought a 30 amp Rv Camper Cord Adapter that plugs directly into the inverter which connects to our sure power. When hooking up to our solar, this allows us to cut off the breakers we will not need to use and only run the ones we can power by our set up.
What can our solar set up run? We have been able to run things like our 800 amp microwave for 5 minutes at a time, fans, lights, even our Ninja Foodi air fryer for about 15 minutes, Tv, tankless hot water heater, tea kettle, chargers and devices, even keep our 10 cubit ft. refrigerator cold. Of course keep in mind besides the fridge, we are not running this all at the same time.
Having our Ampere Time battery is giving us the confidence to stay in the most remote, beautiful places since we no longer have to depend on hook ups for our camping. We can now venture into remote and solitary places that allow our family to have experiences we were not able to have before. This summer, we are all set to travel north to do some dry camping in some of the most exquisite places. I am excited to head back out west in the fall near those original spots that triggered our desire to venture out into solar. Our Ampere Time battery will give us hours of power supply we need to run our essentials so we can stay in these off grid locations. Not only is our Ampere Time battery saving us money, it is helping our family bond at a deeper level as we experience these places together for the first time.
